Polyester is an important type of synthetic fiber and is the commercial name for polyester fiber in China. It is a fiber-forming polymer—polyethylene terephthalate (PET)—produced from purified terephthalic acid (PTA) or dimethyl terephthalate (DMT) and ethylene glycol (EG) through esterification or transesterification and polycondensation reactions, and then manufactured into fibers through spinning and post-processing.
In China, polyester is commonly referred to as 'Dacron.' It has a wide range of uses and is extensively used to make clothing fabrics and industrial products. Polyester has excellent dimensional stability. After polyester yarns or fabrics are set, they maintain a smooth, fluffy shape or pleats, and these shapes remain unchanged even after multiple washes.
Polyester is also known as Terylene, and in the United States, it is called 'Dacron.' When it appeared in the Hong Kong market, people translated it in Cantonese as 'Dacron,' which became a household name.Among the three major synthetic fibers, polyester has the simplest production process and is relatively inexpensive. Additionally, it is loved for its strong and durable nature, good elasticity, resistance to deformation and corrosion, insulating properties, crisp texture, and ease of washing and quick-drying.
